Musical Friends Project: Chester Municipal Heritage Society – 2014

Chester Municipal Heritage Society was awarded a grant of $5000 to be used for the Musical Friends project. Throughout the duration of the project, there were 36 workshops. Participants performed in a community choir, produced a music video and learned important leadership skills.

The Musical Friends Project developed leadership and skills in the performing arts, and made it possible for all youth to attend by providing transportation and food. Elissa, a mother of a youth involved in the program said, “I am so glad you were able to get a drive home for Tara. There would have been tears if she couldn’t go to Musical Friends.”

The project bettered the life of community member Blake Bignell, a 22-year-old man who was unemployed at the time. “I am so grateful for the opportunity of working with Musical Friends. You guys put your trust in me and gave me confidence. I was proud of what the kids were able to accomplish, and even more, I was proud of how I grew during this project. Thank you again. I am looking forward to being part of it again this year. It is very important to me.”
